Bigfoot Adventure

Vibe & Unplug

SOUTH CUMBERLAND PLATEAU · TRACY CITY, TENNESSEE

Vibe & Unplug

Two thousand feet up. No streetlights. No hurry.

Some trips are about doing everything. This one is about doing less. Bigfoot Adventure sits on 500 acres at the top of the South Cumberland Plateau, where the air runs five to eight degrees cooler than the cities below and the sky goes black enough to see the Milky Way from your fire ring. Phones lose their pull up here. Time runs on sunrise, coffee, a walk to the waterfall, and whatever the evening brings.

Quick Facts

    • Elevation: 2,000 feet on the South Cumberland Plateau

    • Camping styles: RV, tent, group and long-stay

    • Fire rings: at every site, firewood sold at check-in

    • Privacy: secluded wooded sites or open meadow

    • Group friendly: open areas for reunions, retreats and gatherings

    • Dark skies: no streetlights, quiet hours 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Slow Adventures

Stargazing — Lie back at the fire ring after quiet hours. No town glow, no traffic, just the plateau sky. Bring a blanket and let your eyes adjust; the Milky Way shows up in about twenty minutes.

Birdwatching — Hardwood forest, open meadow, three ponds and a bluff edge in one walk. Pileated woodpeckers, hawks on the thermals, herons at the water, and the spring warbler migration passing right over the campground. Bring binoculars and a morning.

Secluded & Social

Fire rings tucked into the woods for a quiet night, and open group areas where a church retreat, family reunion or a dozen old friends can spread out under the same sky. Tents in a circle, one big fire, stories until the embers go. Bring the yoga retreat, the writers' weekend, the corporate offsite that isn't in a hotel. The mountain doesn't care what you call it.
